From the FOCUS Newsletter: An Excellent Review of Marcia Holtzman's Poems
"Marcia Holtzman’s seven poems are included among the rich offerings of the latest edition of Metuchen Musings. Her poems range from an examination of the craft itself in "When I Woke Up This Morning" to the consummate love expressed in "The Language of Animals" to the humor of "The Pre-Nup: A Brief Opera in One Act" and to the tragedy of "The Slaughter of Innocents In Beslan."

From the New Jersey Council of Teachers of English Spring-Summer 2006 issue of FOCUS, in the Members & Business News column compiled by Muriel Becker, Executive Secretary. Comment.

Writing Topic: Sharing Our Funny and Embarrassing Stories
by Donna Rubens
The regular meeting of the Writers of Metuchen on Friday, March 5th, brought us, as usual, filled with questions, comments, and the urge to write. So write we did--this time with the topic "Remember an event that your family told over and over and choose something that you either found extremely funny or embarrassing." Oh, the stories we had to tell. Mostly very funny -- All except the facilitator, Donna Rubens, who, after giving the topic, hit a blank, and had to admit she may have been born out of a black hole. But we had tales of oysters on ice cream (Mickey Waring); outrageous schoolboy shenanigans from "good" boys who were never caught (Maddie Hunter); an obnoxious uncle who forever embarrassed the family (author's name withheld!); just to recall some of the cheerful fun as we wrote and shared. Speaking of sharing, our main poet, Marcia Holtzman, read her newest offering, drawing on her experience as facilitator-in-chief for the seventh grade Writers' Room at the Edgar School. Our two-hour (plus) meeting left us all excited, enthused and wishing we had the rest of the day to attack our various projects. Comment.
